The Lieutenant's Cup is a traditional contest between the recent graduates of VMI and those of the UMA. All graduates are invited to participate in the contest and are matched against a newer member from the opposite side of the Club for the game. The contest runs each year with the two academies earning points for each victory their side attains. At the end of the year the academy with the most points is awarded the Lieutenant's Trophy.

This friendly competition is meant to help newer graduates meet other recent graduates who are often at the same skill level as themselves. Although it is a competition the main goal of all participants should be to make a new friend and to fight an honorable battle in the best tradition of the ACWGC.
